OUR ADVOCATE

We are fortunate to have Mike Gronstal represent us, our students, our schools and our profession. In the current political climate it is vital that you understand that we need YOU. Your time, your talent, and--eventually--your treasure will be needed to make sure that we reverse the trend of legislators who are willing to sell out our children for corporate tax cuts.

I encourage you to make a trip to the Statehouse this session, take a tour of the building and observe the proceedings in the House and Senate. If you do get to the Capitol, be sure to stop and see me so that we can get to know each other.

New Year resolutions for the 2011 legislative session

With the New Year comes a new legislative session. The 2011 session begins on January 10, and I’ve got some New Year resolutions that I’ll be working to keep every day at the Iowa Statehouse.

My No. 1 resolution is creating good-paying jobs for Iowans. Iowa’s unemployment numbers are low compared to most other states, but that’s not good enough. We can do a whole lot more to put hard-working Iowans back on the job.

Happy Holidays Friends

Connie and I wish everybody a happy holiday season.

We celebrate Christmas and the hope for “peace on earth and goodwill to men” that we believe is the promise of this season. We sincerely hope the New Year brings a stronger economy and that out-of-work Iowans find greater opportunity.

May you share the joy of this season with family and friends. Happy holidays!
