A Council Bluffs bridge project is in the running to be named the 2010 Best Transportation Project in the United States. The bridge is competing in America’s Transportation Awards, sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, American Automobile Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The 24th Street bridge project in Council Bluffs was selected to compete on the national level for both the People’s Choice Award and National Grand Prize in the “On Time/Small Project” category. The bridge project was selected because of its innovative design and use of construction techniques that allowed the busy roadway to remain open throughout construction.

Iowa traffic fatalities dropped 9.7 percent in 2009 compared to 2008, according to new data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Fewer deaths on Iowa roads is good news—and it’s a trend we want to continue.
