Congratulations to Savanna Groenjes, 13, of Council Bluffs, who has been named National Epilepsy spokesperson. Savanna will travel to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness about epilepsy and how it affects the life of a child who experiences seizures. The advocacy is part of the Epilepsy Foundation's annual Kids Speak Up! event from March 27-29. Savanna and other young people will personally petition congressional leaders for better access to care, improved public education and awareness about epilepsy and more research toward a cure. Consumer scam alert: the State Record Retrieval Board is not a state agency
If you receive a letter in the mail from the State Record Retrieval Board stating that “you need” a copy of your current property deed and “property profile,” and the company charges you an $87 processing fee, think twice before spending your money.
Your local county recorder, which is the official source for a certified deed, can provide the same certified document for $5. And many counties provide the same “property profile” information free of charge on county Web sites. The same information is also available at your county assessor’s office.
